Nguyen Duc Bang graduated as a medical doctor from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1993. He attended an internal medicine postgraduate position from 1993-1995. Since then, he has been working at Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital for more than twenty years as a senior tuberculosis clinician. In 2005, he became the head of the Radiology Department and occupied this position until 2016. Then, he became the head of the Pediatric Department from June 2017 and until August 2018. He is now the head of Tuberculosis Ward. He got a PhD in 2014 from Oxford University, London, UK. He has been involved in several medical research studies on tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS as a principal investigator and medical coordinator, including ANRS-funded clinical trials on HIV-TB co-infection conducted in Ho Chi Minh City from 2010-2019 (ANRS 12229 PAANTHER, ANRS 12290 STATIS and ANRS 12300 REFLATE-TB2).
